Lost Last Month

Reruns, to the networks' fall television schedules. Steve Fossett, aviator and adventurer, somewhere in Nevada. The New York Mets' playoff hopes, on the final day of the season, after leading their division for most of the year. Summer vacations for kids across the land (and for their teachers, too). "Sara," on CBS's CSI, still missing. One day of American work, ironically, to a Labor Day day off. Marcel Marceau, silent genius, at 84. Luciano Pavarotti, tenor, at 71. Madeleine L'Engle, author, 88. Summer, lost to fall.
